2021 4MBS Brisbane Shakespeare Festival: Macbeth!
Join 4MBS Classic FM as we cast a spell across Brisbane this October!
The 4MBS Brisbane Shakespeare Festival has been called a ‘magnificent gift to the people of Brisbane‘ with audiences lauding the directing, acting and production values even amongst self-professed Shakespeare snobs, and praised for its accessibility to younger audiences.
The 4MBS Brisbane Shakespeare Festival presents one of the greatest dramatic works in the English language, the tragedy and timeless ‘Macbeth’.
Featuring perhaps the most iconic character presented, this fictional story bears the weight of history: Macbeth was also a king in 11th century Scotland responsible for as much treachery, murder and deceit as the tragic protagonist of Shakespeare’s play. General Manager of 4MBS Classic FM, Gary Thorpe OAM says that outdoor opportunities for live theatre is especially important in today’s climate.
“In Shakespeare’s time they experienced a pandemic – the plague – it was sweeping through London. They had to shut Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre. We have a pandemic now which has shut theatres all around the world; but a professional play in the park allows audiences to still experience the joy of great theatre,” Thorpe said.
Directed by the multi-award winning Eugene Gilfedder, alongside an outstanding cast, this professional performance showcases the outstanding talent of Brisbane artists.
Whether a first time Shakespeare audience or a ‘Bardolatrist’, the 4MBS Brisbane Shakespeare Festival is the 2021 event not to be missed.
