Book Lovers Group – Past Communications

07/10/2025 @ 10:00 am - 11:00 am
Free

From handwritten letters sealed with wax to the satisfying click of typewriter keys, from the anticipation of a telegram’s arrival to the warmth of a voice crackling through early telephone lines – communication once required patience, intention, and artistry that we rarely experience today.

What to Expect –

Story Sharing Circle: Come prepared to share your personal tales of communication from bygone eras. Perhaps you have memories of:
-Letters exchanged with a distant friend or family member
-Long-distance phone calls that were events in themselves
-The ritual of writing thank-you notes by hand
-Messages passed through creative means during challenging times

Show & Tell: Bring along fascinating artifacts from communication’s past! We encourage you to display:
-Vintage stationery sets and fountain pens
-Old rotary phones or early mobile devices
-Typewriters (portable ones welcome!)
-Telegram copies or vintage postcards
-Letter openers, wax seals, and stamp collections
-Old address books and phone directories
-Morse code equipment or ham radios

Literary Connections
We’ll also discuss books that beautifully capture the essence of past communication methods. Think epistolary novels, stories of wartime correspondence, tales of messages in bottles, and narratives that wouldn’t exist without the slower, more deliberate pace of historical communication.

Light Refreshments
Enjoy a delicious morning tea to celebrate the start of Seniors Month while we travel through time and explore communication of days passed.
