Whilst we recognise that World Elder Abuse Awareness Day was on the 15th June, the Age with Attitude event had to be postponed. It is now being facilitated Tuesday 8th October as part of Seniors Month.
The theme for World Elder Abuse Awareness Day this year, was ‘Turn up the Volume!’ and is a rallying cry for all of us to raise our voices, create positive change and develop solutions to the challenges facing many older Australians.
Elder abuse is any act within a relationship of trust which results in harm to an older person. Much of elder abuse is committed by family members including sons, daughters, spouses or grandchildren. Forms of elder abuse can vary and take shape as financial, emotional, psychological, physical, sexual or social abuse. Abuse can vary in severity from subtle through to extreme or combined and can vary across its quantity.
Elder Abuse is everyone’s business! Join STAR in recognition of World Elder Abuse Awareness Day and lets stand together against the abuse, mistreatment and neglect of older people. Join STAR, ADA Australia, the Elder Abuse Prevention Unit, DVAC and Ipswich District Crime Prevention Unit at the FREE Age with Attitude event.
